Tis the season of gift giving and enjoying family. Tis also the season to "reclaim and re-appropriate” the dress as a symbol of freedom and power; a flag for the inherent dignity of all people. It's been awhile since I posted about an apparel brand and Dressember is THE perfect way to kick back into gear!
As many of you know, I am extremely passionate about ending/preventing human trafficking. Since college I've been researching and working with organizations that are dedicated to ending this disgusting multi-billion dollar industry. So, it makes sense that I'd wholeheartedly support the amazing efforts of Dressember.
Dressember is an organization dedicated to ending sex trafficking, which started officially in 2009 by Blythe Hill. Blythe wore a dress every day for the entire month of December (hence Dressember) as a personal challenge and statement against human trafficking. Eventually, the personal challenge blossomed into a global movement that has raised over $3 million towards increasing global awareness and eradicating slavery and human trafficking.
Working with various grant partners, Dressember works to bring relief and restoration to the survivors across the globe.
There are various ways to get involved with this awesome organization! Whether by purchasing a dress directly from their site, joining the movement as an advocate, or starting a fundraising campaign - there's a way for everyone to get involved! I know we're constantly bombarded with causes and ways to "give back" during the holidays, but wouldn't it be nice to gift freedom this year? This is the time of year when everyone is looking for hope and second chances and Dressember just might be your opportunity to gift that to someone.
